At last the mushroom have arrived the weather has been so perfect it has kicked the season of early which is nice as I was starting to worry, but any way here are a few of the

At last its mushroom time went look for first st George today on favourite places and low and behold they were there waiting and smelling amazing as usual

I will be doing updates to this blog from tomorrow I am aiming to make this, a fill years diary of mushroom hunting and alike for a change. Hope people will find it informative or at least less boring than xfactor

The rain has been a god send looks like the season is on its way.

Well at last the last few weeks have been nothing but rain and lower temps, and if not that just sunny hot days. In other words mushroom perfection i really think this season could be very good for me, the weather has been nothing but perfect and now all this rain right the start of the season.

Anyway here is what i found today and i will post picks of what i find tomorrow as well and dont worry this blog will get alot more active as time goes on.

Well what can i say about these apart from they are nice in salads and damn easy to find lol, thought there numbers this year even surprise me.
They where still to small for collecting today but in a few days i suspect i wont know what to do with them all.


The Blusher (Amanita Rubescens)

Well what can i say about this mushroom well for one its not for the faint hearted after all is does belong to the same family as the Death cap and panther cap, which if you cant tell buy there name are very very deadly. But this little fellow is not only common but is very good eating (but only once its been cooked) im so glad John Wright stopped me being so afraid of these little things and just got me trying them because they are very nice to eat plus very common.

Well it was very nice to find these today it was a good sign finding some Bolete at last i do miss not finding this genus when i am out mushroom hunting and it was good to find these as i have not seen them now for about 3 years and they where popping up every where in my normal patches. There is more pictures to follow this one of a little group of them.

Charcoal Burner (Russula Cyanoxantha)

Well i had to look three times and rub my eyes when i first clapped eye on this one, not because its rare or hard to find but just because the size and the condition, because anyone who goes looking for these will tell you the slugs love them and they are normally all eaten before they get to this size, well that is what i have been told and witnessed my self.

Lacquerd Bracket (Ganoderma Lucidum)

Cant really tell you much about this one only the name and the fact you cant eat it lol, But if anyone has some more info about it please leave a comment and let me know

mushroom hunting on the weekend

Well what a good day of mushroom hunting on Saturday with my brother we came back with just what we went looking for, and spent just over a hour getting them lol cant say better than that!!!

Well here are some pics

And here is the first find of the day some lovely Horse mushrooms.

These were found about 30 Seconds from my front door lol but they do seem to grow like wild fire round these parts.

Then We sore this ring which at first we both thought were more field mushrooms, Turns out they are baby puff balls/ im guessing of the giant kind judging buy there size and the fact they were perfect little spheres.

There was about 7 rings right next to each other and about 50 + more in the area looks like its a good year for puff balls.

Then we found what we were looking for LOTS AND LOTS of Beautiful (one of my favs)

And very nice sizes too we picked as many as we could be bothered to cut, well I could cut someone had a hangover !!

Here is a nice up-close picture of the top of them, Tho to be honest the bottom is better for identification purposes. i will upload better ID guides and alike soon when i really get this site going.

These are the ones I could be bothered to pick could have easily picked ten times that and not even made a dent if my BROTHER was not, shall we say a bit delicate

well it has been a very weird growth patten this year, i was picking ST George a few weeks ago and now I'm picking Field mushrooms and horse mushrooms.

Here are some of the lovely tasting ST George mushrooms i was picking a few weeks ago.

Here are some of the Field or Agaricus macrosporus hard to tell as they are all ready breaking down.

This is very strange as ST George are normally about in April/may i was picking them at end of May, and now These are turning up 2 months bloody early, and all ready decaying like my hopes for finding any before the mushroom fly larvae eat them all!
